ABOUT kayla:
I grew up with family members who worked in the industry, so I was familiar with it. However, I never thought pursuing a career in Human Resources would lead me back to the industry.
Like many college students, I was looking for a summer job, and my family influenced me to get my commercial driver's license. I began working for a local construction company, hauling aggregates and asphalt, and helping the crew as needed. I worked there during the summer throughout college. At that time, I still didn't see myself working in the industry until I found my current role at Minnesota Paving and Materials.
Fast forward six years, and I can't imagine working in any other industry. The relationships that you form with people, not only within the company but also outside, make it such a great industry to be in. I think many would agree that Human Resources isn't always a fun job. However, once you can be more than just the policy police and can instead be a business partner, that's when the hard work of building trust and relationships pays off.
