ABOUT lilyanna:

My name is Lilyanna Lofgren-Garcia, and I am a member of Bricklayers & Craft Workers Local 1. My journey began In 2022, when I was 19 years old, attending college, and pursuing a career in social work. I’ve always felt a strong desire to make a meaningful impact in the world, to contribute in some way that could leave a lasting mark. I knew I wanted to do more with my life—to change the world and help build it up.

While exploring different paths, I began looking into the trades, even though I didn’t know much about them. Then, one day, an opportunity came into my life, and I decided to take it. I got into the 6-week pre-apprenticeship program. I wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting into, but I saw potential and took a leap.

Now, at 22, I’ve realized that this unexpected journey has allowed me to live out my values of building the world and leaving a positive impact. It turns out that the change I wanted to create in the world didn’t come in the form I initially expected, but it’s been just as meaningful.

Since I started on the job, I’ve learned so much, and what I love most is that the learning never stops. It’s not just about mastering the trade, but also about picking up valuable tricks and techniques that make a real difference in what I do. I’ve had the chance to learn from the experiences of others, which has been incredibly eye-opening, and I’ve realized how much I can use my skills beyond the job site too. The best part for me is that there’s always something new to discover. It keeps me inspired and excited because the growth never ends, and that’s what I enjoy most about this work.

Every day on a job site comes with its own challenges, but I’ve learned that the best way to handle them is to face them with an open mind. Every challenge is an opportunity to learn and grow. I’ve come to realize that the more you experience, the better you become at handling whatever comes your way. It’s not always easy, but I’ve found that if you keep pushing forward, things always get better, and you come out stronger in the end.
